Bret Babos

Deputy Director

Bret has served in an executive capacity in the non-profit industry for over 15 years, and specializes in helping organizations increase their capacity towards future growth opportunities. Having spent a majority of the past decade working as a COO, he is very familiar with all aspects of non-profit leadership from strategic planning, financial management, program impact, and fundraising, to basic business operations. Bret has developed a strong collaborative approach to engaging staff, Board members, government officials, consultants, and advisors; bringing shared leadership, outside experience, and community awareness to company initiatives.

He earned his MBA from Chapman University in Orange California, graduating at the top of the executive class. He is also a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, the International Business Honors Society.

Why do you work in this field?

Bret grew up about 200 yards from an old growth oak forest in Southern California and as a young child was overwhelmed by the amazing biodiversity of life this forest supported. As a result, he developed a strong interest in all things related to conservation, habitat protection, and wildlife preservation. Being able to support efforts that keep our wild places untouched and healthy brings him great personal satisfaction.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

When he is not working, he I’m either out playing soccer, surfing, skiing, mountain biking, or driving his wife crazy talking non-stop about international soccer.

Lastly, what is your favorite outdoor activity?

See above. It would be some sort of combination of surfing, backcountry skiing, mountain biking, or mountain climbing.
