Masai Dumisani

UCI Fellow

Masai Dumisani is one of Coastal Corridor Alliance’s interns. She is a part of a program called College Corps at UC Irvine which helps college students gain volunteer opportunities with non-profits organizations that showcase great work within climate change and food insecurity. She is a second year attending UC Irvine, studying pharmaceutical sciences. She likes to expand her horizons, which she does so by taking up opportunities such as this one and learning about topics she wouldn’t necessarily have exposure to within her major-related studies. Changing hobbies happens all the time for her, but at the moment she loves to read, mainly dystopian and autobiography books. She is a true foodie and loves to explore new places! She is super stoked to be a CCA intern and will work hard to make the most of the experience.

Why do you work in this field?

Masai finds environmental awareness and preservation extremely important. Her mother works in the environmental field for the State of California, which fostered her initial interest in this internship opportunity. She finds joy in knowing she can align herself with an organization that works hard to cultivate the lands and waters while she pursues her education.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Masai has recently taken up various new hobbies. As she gets acclimated to college life, she is learning to cook. She also enjoys walks around the beautiful UC Irvine campus. She often takes trips to local arboretums and hiking trails when she can. Her goal is to have hobbies that enrich and clear her mind.

Lastly, what is your favorite outdoor activity?

Masai’s favorite outdoor activity is reading in her grandmother’s garden. Her grandmother has an amazing green thumb, who can grow nearly everything, from tomatoes and cucumbers to orchids and persimmons. Especially on sunny days, sitting amongst the foliage/plants is so relaxing with a good book.
