Sergio Tellez

Senior Community Organizer

Sergio grew up on a small ranch in Mexico surrounded by horses, cattle, javelinas, pythons, and more. His dad was a farmer and taught him to love, respect, and care for nature from a very young age. He has lived in the US for 19 years and has been an active volunteer in the local community since 2010. He is deeply committed to community empowerment and fostering relationships among neighbors and with our natural environment. Now that he has a young child of his own, he is especially aware of the need to educate young people about the importance of environmental stewardship. Sergio enjoys seeing the world with wonder through the eyes of his son. He grows many of his own vegetables without the use of any pesticides or harmful chemicals for his family’s benefit and for the benefit of the environment. He has a vermicompost worm bin and enjoys seeing his food scraps converted into rich compost for use in his garden.

Why do you work in this field?

From a young age, Sergio was taught to love, respect, and care for nature. He has always lived a life that is very close to our natural environment and he sees more and more people missing out on the amazing gift that nature is. Protecting our natural habitats and native species is essential for future generations. Getting outside has many great benefits too and he want people to feel the same joy and passion that he does.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

When he is not working, he is usually watching soccer or gardening with his son. He also enjoys hiking, camping, cooking, and exploring with his family. Learning about plants and animals is also something he cares deeply about.

Lastly, what is your favorite outdoor activity?

Sergio loves running, playing soccer, and hiking
